Update, Saturday, June 11

Grace left for the beach today with a friend. We are so thankful she is well enough to go! Packed up a suitcase she recently bought at an antique store, probably from the 1950’s. Did it roll? No, it did not. Was it heavy? Indeed. She did not care.

Two treatments this past week, Monday at Children’s and Friday via “home health,” which we have come to love if one can love such a thing. She is 85% at times, back at 70% ish with balance issues by Monday before her treatment.

Productive week included finishing, yes finishing, English for sophomore year. (Hooray!!) Grace has several subjects to go, but getting this behind her was very encouraging. Also included cleaning room and pulling weeds. (This is a work week, I said.)

Thank you, thank you for your continued prayers and love.

Grateful, Lynn

Update, Saturday, June 4

Playing tennis is a sure sign that Grace is doing well. 🙂 We are thankful for her much improved condition, as she has had a great week! 80 – 90% all week.

Monday, Grace will have a treatment at Children’s, then again on Friday, at home. “Home health” is sure easy. 🙂

Thankful,
Lynn

Update, Tuesday, May 24

Hi friends.

Since last post, Grace has had some really good days, 80% ish, and then some days back at 60% ish. Last Friday, Grace had an IVIG infusion at home, which we all thought was just great, except Grace, who had to endure three “get the iv in” attempts.

Plans are to have IVIG treatments once a week for now, next one being this Thursday.

Tonight, Grace and I kicked the soccer ball around. She is doing that well today, which is amazing. We are not sure if each week will have great days and not-as-great days.

We are so encouraged that Grace is responding to this treatment. Thank you for continuing to pray with us for complete healing. We believe God is going to provide it.

Be encouraged, so many of you who are hurting. God is for you.

“If our God is for us, then who can be against us?”

Update, Monday, May 16

Grace is a definite step better since my last post. Yesterday, she was taking some steps on her own, and today, more independent steps with better balance. We are excited that her body is responding to the IVIG treatment! God is our Healer, and we are thankful for the healing we see in Grace.

As a result of this, Grace is wanting to wear heels and asking when she can drive. “We’re not there, yet,” I said.

so, Happy Monday!
Lynn

Update, Thursday, May 12, 2011

We are home after three IVIG treatments, which Grace tolerated well at a pretty rapid rate. We will go for a treatment next week in the clinic, outpatient.

Ready for a good night’s sleep…

Update, May 11, 2011

Grace was admitted to Children’s yesterday and given first of three IVIG treatments overnight, slow infusion to avoid drop in blood pressure. She is doing fine this morning, probably start second dose after lunch.

We are praying that our God will use these treatments to completely heal Grace. Thank you for praying with us.

Minnesota, Friday, May 6, 2011

Today Grace had a “movement disorder study,” where they shocked her a bit (not much, ’bout like an electric fence, said the doctor :-/ ), then an “EEG” where they glued 20 electrodes to her head. Yes, of course I took pictures of this.

Met with Dr. Pittock for a bit for summary and treatment recommendation. Dr. Pittock confirmed previous findings that this is an auto-immune disorder with cause unknown, and suggested an aggressive treatment of IVIG over the next 12 weeks for starters, as neurologists at Mayo and Children’s continue to work together. Her response to the 12 week treatment will determine the next step.

We are ready to be home, as no one even understands “unsweet tea” here.

Point of clarification: Nurse “Luke” was not dressed in Star Wars garb, but we recognized him just the same, especially with the force so evident. 🙂

So, again, we thank you for your prayers, your posts, your constant encouragement. We are grateful for the opportunity to come to Mayo Clinic, praying that God will use this place to bless and heal many.

Headed home tomorrow, Lynn

Hi friends.

Today Grace has been video-ed, x-rayed, examined and stuck. Dr. Keegan ordered a few different tests that haven’t been done previously.

Yesterday, Luke Skywalker, or his twin, put in Grace’s iv for the MRI. The force must have been strong with him, as Grace gave a “10” for “ability to put in an iv well.” She has never given anyone above a 6 before.

Good news from yesterday’s MRI: previous MRI’s have been abnormal, but yesterday’s was basically normal. This means that “radiologically,” Grace is better, but “clinically,” not better yet.

Dr. Keegan and Dr. Pittock will make recommendations on next treatment for Grace after (most of) the results of tests are in.

Thank you for praying with us for Grace’s complete healing. We thank God for the healing we’ve seen.

Back at the hotel after 1) appointment with Dr. Pittock, Irish accent so I’m sure our conversation was hard for him to understand, who had much to say about what might be going on with Grace and how to “get her better” then 2) more blood work, total is 52 vials then 3) another MRI and MRA.

Grace is scheduled to see another auto-immune specialist, Dr. Keegan, as well as have some other tests over the next couple days.

This Mayo Clinic is an amazing place, so many sick people here, employees are kind and professional. We are thankful for this opportunity to hear from such specialists.

Buddy says he’s tired of carrying all our stuff around… 🙂

Stay warm!
