Heaven

Our day with Don Piper was a day that we will long remember for many reasons.  So what exactly did Don Piper teach us about Heaven?  Let take a few minutes and make a list of a few things that he encountered.

  • There really are pearly gates.  The Bible says there are twelve of them and Don said they seemed to be alive with their radiance.
  • There was a magnificent light originating from a pinnacle in the distance.
  • We will recognize people in Heaven.
  • The streets of gold…they were there but appeared to be translucent.
  • Angels make tremendous noise with their wings as they praise God.
  • The music was massive but molded together in perfect harmony.
  • There are mansions…dwelling places in Heaven.  Don didn’t elaborate but said they were magnificent.
  • All of our senses work in Heaven.  Don could hear, smell, feel and was sure that taste would also be incredible but he did not experience that.
  • Our bodies will be perfected!!  They will be just like God intended for them to be.  All of the scars will be gone…except for those on Jesus.
  • There was no waiting to get there…absent from the body…present with the Lord.
  • Heaven isn’t a dream…it is a real place.  Don said several times it is more real than our life here.
  • Don was greeted by those people who helped him know Christ.
  • The music was a combination of many different songs into one and yet somehow it all made sense!
  • He simply didn’t want to leave.

So who will we greet in Heaven.  It was not those who lead him in the “sinner’s prayer” that greeted him but simply those who assisted in the process by how they lived their lives and they did for Don so he could hear about Jesus.   The Bible puts it this way:  I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV)

So Heaven is real!  Because of that, we have work to do.  I think I will go “plant” or “water” today and let God bring about the results!
